The Amritsar Urban Police have busted an international drug trafficking network and arrested two accused involved in smuggling narcotics linked to handlers based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
During the operation, police recovered 10 kilograms of Ice (Methamphetamine) and 4 kilograms of heroin from their possession.
Addressing the media, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were in direct contact with a drug smuggler operating from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Acting on his instructions, they were supplying narcotics consignments across Punjab and Delhi.
Police investigations further revealed that one of the accused had recently returned from Dubai, where he allegedly received training related to heroin and Ice smuggling operations.
According to the Commissioner, the accused were actively managing drug supply networks in Punjab’s Majha and Doaba regions. The seized consignment of heroin and methamphetamine was reportedly meant to be distributed across multiple districts.
An FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered at Chheharta Police Station. Police are now probing the backward and forward links of the network to identify other members associated with the racket.
Investigators are also examining how many consignments had already been supplied and whether the network has connections with other Indian states and foreign countries.
Police officials said that the anti-drug campaign will continue aggressively, with special surveillance being maintained on international narcotics syndicates operating in the region.
