In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Amritsar Rural Police's Gharinda Police Station and the Border Security Force (BSF) jointly recovered around 3.05 kilograms of heroin during a special anti-narcotics operation near the border area. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth around ₹20 crore in the international market.
The joint operation was launched after security agencies received intelligence about suspicious activities in the border region. During the search, the police and BSF recovered three packets, of which two contained heroin, while the third packet contained another suspected narcotic substance. The total weight of the recovered drugs was reported to be 3.05 kilograms.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment was intended to be smuggled into Punjab from across the international border. However, the timely action and coordinated efforts of the police and BSF successfully foiled the suspected cross-border smuggling attempt.
Authorities have launched a further investigation to identify the smugglers and uncover the network behind the narcotics trafficking operation.
