A shocking mass murder case has come to light in Bengaluru, Karnataka, where a cab driver allegedly killed his wife and six members of her family over a domestic dispute.
A seven-year-old boy was also among the victims. The accused, identified as Shekhar, has been arrested by the police.
According to the police, Shekhar had married Sunita around 20 years ago. The couple frequently argued over her visits to her parental home. Sunita's mother and brothers reportedly supported her, which allegedly angered Shekhar. Upset over the issue, he is suspected of plotting to eliminate his wife's family.
Police said Shekhar first allegedly murdered Sunita at their home using a grinding stone. He then wrapped her body in cloth and dumped it near Nandi Hills. After the murder, he switched off her mobile phone and reportedly told neighbours that she had gone on a trip.
The following day, he allegedly invited his two brothers-in-law, Shivkumar and Shankar, to his house on the pretext of a party and murdered them. He subsequently killed their wives, Divya and Nalini, his mother-in-law, Roopwati, and Shivkumar's seven-year-old son, Puneet.
The case came to light after Nalini's mother lodged a missing person complaint at the Srirampura police station. During the investigation, police uncovered the multiple murders and arrested Shekhar.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly used chemicals to remove bloodstains from the house after the killings. He also used a car to transport and dispose of the bodies at different locations. Police have seized the grinding stone allegedly used in the murders and the car involved in the crime.
Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.
