Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a sharp attack on the BJP during his ongoing “Shukrana Yatra,” alleging that divisive politics was being used to create tension in Punjab. Mann claimed that communal parties try to divide people in the name of religion to gain votes and alleged that recent minor blast incidents in Jalandhar and Amritsar were “signals of BJP’s entry” into the state.

He said that such parties attempt to create conflict between Hindus and Sikhs, but stressed that Punjab’s people believe in unity and brotherhood. Mann further alleged that wherever such forces gain influence, they spread unrest and social divisions.

The Chief Minister, however, clarified that the “Shukrana Yatra” was not linked to any political agenda, but was being carried out to express gratitude towards Guru Sahib. According to Mann, the Punjab government considers it a major responsibility to implement strict laws against sacrilege incidents, something society had been demanding for a long time.

Mann said his government has implemented the Jaagat Jot Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026, which provides strict punishment in cases of sacrilege. He stated that anyone found guilty of disrespecting Guru Granth Sahib could face severe legal action, including life imprisonment.

The Chief Minister said sacrilege incidents were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at disturbing Punjab’s peace and communal harmony. He added that the purpose of the law is not to spread fear, but to prevent such incidents and protect religious sentiments.

Mann maintained that the decision to bring the law was not taken for political gains, but in response to public sentiment and a long-standing demand from society. He also questioned opposition parties, saying those now opposing the law had earlier failed to treat such incidents seriously.

Calling himself merely a “servant” entrusted with responsibility by Guru Sahib, Mann said he felt fortunate to have had the opportunity to implement the historic legislation. He added that during the “Shukrana Yatra,” he would visit sacred Sikh sites including Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Akal Takht, and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.

According to Mann, the purpose of the journey is to express gratitude towards Guru Sahib and strengthen the spirit of peace, harmony, and brotherhood across Punjab.
