Central government offices located in New Delhi will remain closed on September 11 in view of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to be held from September 11 to 13. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued an official order announcing the holiday, while Delhi Traffic Police has already released an advisory regarding vehicular movement and traffic restrictions in the capital.
The three-day summit will be hosted at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and will feature several high-level meetings, including the BRICS Business Forum and the BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The event is expected to bring together heads of state, ministers, diplomats and business leaders from BRICS member nations.
The BRICS bloc currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Representatives from partner countries, including Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, are also expected to attend the summit.
Given the large-scale movement of foreign dignitaries and extensive logistical arrangements required for the event, special security measures are being put in place across New Delhi. Acting on the advice of Delhi Police, the government decided to keep central government offices closed on September 11 to facilitate smooth conduct of the summit and minimize disruption.
The closure effectively extends through the summit period, as September 12 and 13 fall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Authorities have urged residents and commuters to follow traffic advisories and plan their travel accordingly during the international event.
