The most renowned mythological and religious belief associated with this sacred festival of Diwali is connected to the return of Lord Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram to Ayodhya. According to ancient scriptures, when Lord Ram returned to his holy city of Ayodhya along with Mother Sita and brother Lakshman after completing 14 long years of exile and securing victory over Ravana, a wave of immense joy swept through the city. To celebrate the long-awaited return of their beloved king, the people of Ayodhya illuminated their homes and streets with earthen lamps, bathing the entire city in a magnificent glow of lights. It is believed that this grand festival of Deepotsav is celebrated every year to commemorate this glorious victory of truth over falsehood and the joyous welcome of Lord Ram.

Addressing the nation through a special video message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that today, on this auspicious occasion of Diwali, the entire country and world are illuminated with lights. This festival of illumination serves as a living testimony to our resolve to eradicate ignorance and darkness from our lives. Extending his best wishes, the Prime Minister added that he wishes everyone a very happy Diwali and prays that this festival and the times ahead remain filled with happiness, peace, good health, and boundless prosperity. Across various parts of the country, people are performing special worship rituals for Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, praying for wealth and well-being in their homes.
