Punjab Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday announced that All India Tourist Permits (AITPs) will now be issued directly online to applicants through the official Parivahan portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Cheema said that earlier, tourist vehicle operators were required to collect physical, printed permits from the office of the State Transport Authority (STA), Mohali (PB01). With the introduction of the digital facility, applicants can now apply for and obtain the required documentation online without visiting government offices.
Minister said the initiative is aimed at making public services more transparent, efficient and hassle-free. Applicants will no longer have to wait in queues or make repeated visits to the STA office in Mohali for their permits.
Emphasising the Punjab government's focus on digital governance, Cheema said the move would reduce bureaucratic delays and make transport-related services more accessible to citizens. He added that the online system would save valuable time for transport operators and improve efficiency and accountability in the delivery of services.
Cheema further said vehicle owners and commercial operators can access the national transport portal to apply for and download their approved AITP documents. The facility will provide round-the-clock access to permit services and help ensure uninterrupted business operations for tourist vehicle operators across the state.
Minister described the move as an important step towards strengthening digital delivery of transport services and improving the ease of doing business in Punjab's transport sector.
