Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the state government would carefully consider any suggestions or amendments received from Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding the proposed sacrilege law.

Speaking to reporters in Dhuri, Mann said the government holds Sri Akal Takht Sahib in the highest regard and would examine its recommendations before placing the matter before the state Cabinet.

"We consider Sri Akal Takht Sahib as the supreme authority. Whatever suggestions or amendments come from there will be reviewed and discussed in the Cabinet," the Chief Minister said.

Women's Monthly Financial Assistance to Begin July 1

The Chief Minister also confirmed that Punjab's much-awaited monthly financial assistance scheme for women will begin from July 1.

Under the scheme, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month, while Scheduled Caste (SC) women will receive ₹1,500 per month.

The rollout will begin from Mann's home constituency, Dhuri. He said the banking process for transferring the funds will start after 12 noon on Tuesday, with beneficiaries beginning to receive the money from July 1.

First Installment to Cover Three Months

According to the Chief Minister, around 40 lakh women have already registered under the scheme, while the registration process for the remaining eligible beneficiaries is still underway.

He clarified that regardless of when a woman completes her registration, the benefit will be calculated from July 1. As a result, the government will deposit the first three months' assistance in a single installment.

  • General category women will receive ₹3,000 in the first payment.

  • SC category women will receive ₹4,500 in the first installment.

Mann described the initiative as a major welfare measure aimed at providing direct financial support to women across Punjab while ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries are included in the scheme.
