Congress received a significant political setback in Punjab's Qadian Assembly constituency after senior leader Thakur Balraj Singh joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during a massive political rally in Mukerian. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann formally inducted the veteran leader into the party.
Welcoming Balraj Singh, CM Mann described him as an experienced grassroots leader who has served the people for many years. He said the Aam Aadmi Party always welcomes honest leaders committed to public service and assured Balraj Singh of full respect and recognition within the party.
A three-time Zila Parishad Member, former Block Samiti Chairman and former Chairman of the Land Mortgage Bank, Balraj Singh is considered an influential political figure in the Qadian region.
Qadian Halqa In-charge Guriqbal Singh Mahal said Balraj Singh enjoys a strong support base in the constituency and holds considerable influence among the Thakur community. He expressed confidence that the senior leader's entry would further strengthen the AAP's organizational base in Qadian.
Mahal also welcomed Balraj Singh and his supporters into the party, stating that they would work together to accelerate the development of the constituency and serve the people more effectively.
Speaking after joining the AAP, Thakur Balraj Singh said he had been associated with the Congress for many years but had become disillusioned with the party due to internal conflicts and factionalism.
He said he was inspired by the people-centric policies of the Aam Aadmi Party and the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Balraj Singh added that he joined the party with the commitment to contribute wholeheartedly to Punjab's development and serve the people with honesty and dedication.
