A devastating road accident on the Jammu National Highway in Jalandhar claimed four lives and left five others critically injured after a head-on collision between a Hyundai Creta and a Maruti Baleno.

According to information, the victims were travelling in the Baleno car to visit Sri Hazur Sahib when the accident occurred near Kishangarh. While attempting to cross the divider, the vehicle reportedly went out of control and entered the opposite lane, colliding violently with an oncoming Creta.

The impact was so severe that both vehicles were extensively damaged. Local residents immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot, took custody of the bodies, and launched an investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding may have been the primary cause of the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Rupinder Singh, a resident of Himmatpur in Hoshiarpur district, his wife Harpreet Kaur, their son Arshdeep Singh, and Santosh Kaur. Among the victims was also a two-year-old child and a soldier, officials said.

All five occupants of the Creta, residents of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, sustained serious injuries. The injured have been identified as Alina Khan (daughter of Abdul Saeed Khan), Abdul Saeed Khan, Parveen Khan, Abdul Faizal Khan, and Maynal Khan.

Police officials from Alawalpur police post, led by SI Ravinder Singh, reached the site immediately, along with DSP Rajeev Kumar. Rescue operations were carried out, the damaged vehicles were removed, and traffic on the highway was restored.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
