National Capital witnessed intense rainfall, receiving more than 50 mm of rain within a few hours, leading to severe waterlogging across several parts of the city. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heavy showers were caused by the interaction of four active monsoon systems.
The downpour disrupted normal life, with water accumulating at metro stations and on several major roads. Authorities reported 136 complaints related to waterlogging, while 36 trees were uprooted due to strong winds and saturated ground conditions.
At present, two significant weather systems remain active over the country. A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwest across Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. The IMD has warned that this system is likely to bring above-normal rainfall to northwest and central India and heavy rainfall over eastern India during the next four to five days.
Meanwhile, continuous rain has triggered landslides in Uttarakhand, blocking key pilgrimage routes. In view of the deteriorating weather conditions, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for two days. Authorities have also declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres up to Class 12 in Champawat, Bageshwar, and Tehri districts.
In neighboring Himachal Pradesh, the administration has ordered the closure of all government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, and Anganwadi centres in the Nahan sub-division of Sirmaur district on Wednesday following an orange alert for heavy rainfall. Officials clarified that pre-scheduled examinations will be conducted as planned.
The weather department has issued warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, flash floods, and landslides in the affected region. District authorities said the decision to close educational institutions was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, and all institutions have been instructed to comply strictly with the order.
