The Punjab Government has accelerated rural development by launching road and infrastructure projects worth more than ₹18.76 crore in the Lehragaga, Dirba, and Baghrol regions of Sangrur district. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several development works, stating that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is continuously working to transform rural Punjab.
Addressing a public gathering in village Daska, the Finance Minister dedicated the 10.5-kilometre road connecting Bachhuana to Bareta via Daska and Bahadurpur. The road has been widened from 12 feet to 18 feet at a cost of ₹7.15 crore, which is expected to ease long-standing traffic congestion and improve road safety for commuters.
Cheema also inaugurated a newly constructed 4-kilometre metalled road connecting Daska and Khatri Wala, built at a cost of ₹1.27 crore. In addition, a 1-kilometre link road leading to Dera Baba Dhaula Pir on the Daska-Bahadurpur route has been completed at a cost of ₹34.50 lakh, ensuring smoother travel for devotees and local residents.
In the Baghrol region, development projects worth nearly ₹10 crore were launched. The Finance Minister announced the construction of a 3-kilometre road connecting Baghrol and Bujrak, along with a new road linking Baghrol to Burj Tilla and Kheri Nagaiyan. A road connecting Baghrol and Ballamgarh has also been completed at a cost of ₹1.16 crore.
Highlighting another major achievement, Cheema said that nearly 12 kilometres of earthen roads, neglected for almost seven to eight decades, are being converted into paved roads at a cost of ₹5.25 crore. These projects are expected to significantly improve accessibility and connectivity across the region.
He further informed that road development works covering around 19 kilometres are currently underway in and around the Baghrol area. These projects are expected to benefit farmers, traders, and residents by improving transportation networks and supporting economic growth.
Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment to balanced development, Harpal Singh Cheema said the government aims to bridge the infrastructure gap between urban and rural areas. Providing quality roads, better transportation facilities, and modern infrastructure in every village remains a key priority of the Bhagwant Mann Government.
Local residents, community leaders, Panchayat representatives, and administrative officials welcomed the projects, describing them as a significant step toward strengthening rural infrastructure and boosting the local economy.
