On the sacred occasion of the martyrdom day of the fifth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and Nirjala Ekadashi, the Punjab Police on Tuesday organised a ‘chhabil’ (sweet cold water service) outside the Punjab Police Headquarters. The initiative was undertaken with devotion and a spirit of service to provide relief to the public from the intense summer heat.

The primary objective of the programme was to spread the teachings of Guru Sahib, emphasising service, compassion, and humanity among the masses. Sweetened cold water was distributed to pedestrians, commuters, and members of the public passing through the area.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav personally participated in the service, serving chilled sweet water to people with his own hands. He said that the life and sacrifice of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji remain a timeless example of tolerance, dedication, and selfless service, continuing to inspire society towards the path of humanity.

Several senior police officers also actively participated in the chhabil service. Among those present were Special DGP Headquarters S.S. Srivastava, Special DGP Technical Services Ram Singh, ADGP Security Kaustubh Sharma, DIG Administration Alka Meena, DIG Personnel Amneet Kondal, DIG Crime Sarabjit Singh, AIG Personnel Suhail Qasim Mir, AIG Provisioning Ajay Gandhi, and DGP’s Staff Officer Rishabh Bhola, along with other officials. All officers contributed wholeheartedly to the successful conduct of the event.

During the programe, DGP Gaurav Yadav also reiterated the Punjab Police’s commitment towards environmental conservation by planting a neem sapling within the headquarters premises. He stated that protecting the environment is as important as serving society, and ensuring a clean and green future for coming generations is a shared responsibility.

The DGP further said that the eternal teachings of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji continue to inspire values of dedication, sensitivity, and selfless service. He urged citizens to adopt these ideals in their daily lives and contribute positively towards building a compassionate society.
