Dirba assembly constituency in Punjab is witnessing rapid development, with large-scale infrastructure and welfare projects progressing at a steady pace. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that 1,362 development works have already been completed in the region, involving an expenditure of ₹308.80 crore.
He further informed that 709 development projects worth ₹421.26 crore are currently underway. The details were shared during a review meeting held at the district administrative complex in Sangrur, where he assessed the progress of various departmental works with senior officials.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister issued strict directions to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed within the stipulated timeline and without any compromise on quality. He also warned that strict action would be taken against officials found guilty of negligence or delay in execution.
Cheema said the Punjab government is working in a planned manner for the overall development of the Dirba region to provide modern and improved civic amenities to the public.
Special focus is being laid on strengthening road infrastructure, including construction of new roads, repair of existing roads, expansion of link roads, and paving of village streets.
He added that major improvements are also being carried out in the health and education sectors. Government hospitals and health centres are being upgraded with new equipment, while Aam Aadmi Clinics are being expanded.
In the education sector, smart classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and additional classrooms are being developed to improve learning environments for students.
The government is also promoting sports infrastructure by developing new stadiums, gyms, and playgrounds to encourage youth participation in sports and help them stay away from drug abuse. Basic civic amenities such as drinking water supply, sewerage systems, street lighting, and parks are also being upgraded.
The minister reiterated that the government remains committed to balanced development across all villages and towns, ensuring that basic public needs are addressed on a priority basis.
