Electric buses will now be operated locally in Ambala, Haryana. Similar to the metropolitan cities. Transport Minister, Anil Vij will inaugurate this initiative by flagging off five electric buses on Republic Day, January 26,2025.
Five electric buses will be included in the local bus service running between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City. Presently, 15 mini-buses operate by the Transport Department under the local bus service in Ambala, and these electric buses will be included and integrated into the same routes. The new buses will be modern, air-conditioned, and pollution-free, ensuring a convenient and smooth travel experience for Ambala residents.
Vij said that with the aim of Zero-Emission Public Transport system, State Transport Haryana has decided to introduce eco-friendly electric buses under the NEMMP 2020. This initiative aligns with the Indian Government’s goals to achieve the National Electric Mobility Mission.
Vij said that the government plans to purchase 50 electric buses each for 10 municipal corporations, including Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Hisar, GMCBL, and FMDA, totalling 500 buses. Each bus will have 45 seats, with standing space for 18 passengers.
