In a daring late-night robbery, three armed intruders allegedly held the wife and daughter of a retired Army serviceman hostage before looting valuables worth lakhs from their house in Naurangabad village on the Attari-Kapurthala road in Punjab's Tarn Taran district.
The victim, Baldev Singh, who retired from the Indian Army around two months ago, was away from home on Sunday due to personal work and did not return until late at night. His wife Baljinder Kaur, married daughter Anmoldeep Kaur, and five-year-old granddaughter had gone to sleep after dinner.
According to the family, at around 11 pm, three robbers scaled the boundary wall and entered the house, hiding in the kitchen before confronting the occupants. When Baljinder Kaur stepped out of her room to fetch water, the intruders overpowered her and took her back into the bedroom, where they also restrained Anmoldeep Kaur.
The victims alleged that the robbers tied both women using Baldev Singh's turban while the terrified five-year-old child cried throughout the ordeal. The suspects remained inside the house for nearly 90 minutes, searching every room before fleeing with around 30 tolas of gold jewellery, ₹1.25 lakh in cash, a Bullet motorcycle, other valuables, and the DVR of the home's CCTV system.
After freeing themselves, the family informed the police early Monday morning. ASI Inderjit Singh from Sadar Police Station visited the spot, and police have launched an investigation to identify and trace the accused. No arrests had been reported at the time of filing the report.
