India witnessed a sharp surge in fuel prices on Friday as oil marketing companies passed on the impact of rising global energy costs directly to consumers. Petrol and diesel prices were increased by ₹3 per litre across the country, leading to an immediate financial burden on the common public.

The hike comes amid a significant rise in international energy prices, which has now translated into higher retail fuel rates in India. As a result, commuters will now have to spend considerably more on daily transportation.

Delhi Fuel Prices Hit Hard

In the national capital, the revised rates have placed additional pressure on consumers. After the ₹3 per litre increase, petrol in Delhi now costs ₹97.77 per litre, while diesel is priced at ₹90.67 per litre. The increase is expected to significantly impact daily commuters and vehicle owners across the city.

Price Surge Across Major Cities

The hike is not limited to Delhi alone. Major metropolitan cities have also seen steep increases:

  • Kolkata: Petrol up by ₹3.29 to ₹108.74/litre

  • Mumbai: Petrol increased by ₹3.14 to ₹106.68/litre

  • Chennai: Petrol rose by ₹2.83 to ₹103.67/litre

CNG Prices Also Increased

Alongside petrol and diesel, CNG rates have also been increased by ₹2 per kg, further adding to transport costs.

In Delhi, CNG now costs ₹79.09 per kg. Across the NCR region, revised prices vary:

  • Noida & Ghaziabad: ₹87.70/kg

  • Muzaffarnagar, Meerut & Shamli: ₹87.58/kg

  • Gurugram: ₹84.12/kg

  • Rewari: ₹83.70/kg

  • Karnal: ₹83.43/kg

Impact on Public

The fuel price hike is expected to affect auto-rickshaws, taxis, delivery services, and private vehicle users, ultimately increasing the cost of essential goods and daily commuting for the general public.
