Announcement to Develop Hathiyarpur School as a Model Institution; ₹15 Lakh Allocated for Playground Upgrade, ICT Classrooms and Infrastructure Revamp Ordered
Mohali: As part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing drive to transform government schools, Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains conducted a surprise inspection of Government Senior Secondary School, Hathiyarpur, in SAS Nagar (Mohali). During the visit, he directed officials to submit a detailed project report (DPR) within one week to ensure comprehensive modernisation of the school.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the poor condition of classrooms and the urgent need for repainting—despite the school being located near Chandigarh—the Education Minister immediately spoke to the Director (Secondary Education) and ordered the formation of an inspection team. He instructed that a thorough assessment be conducted and the DPR be prepared within a week. Bains affirmed that the school would be developed into a model educational institution, setting a benchmark for other government schools.
He issued directions for repair and renovation work, construction of ICT-enabled smart classrooms, improvement of basic infrastructure, and provision of new uniforms for students. The Minister also advised the school principal to display students’ artwork in the corridors to encourage creativity and foster a positive learning environment.
During the visit, Bains interacted directly with students and sought feedback on the quality of education and facilities. He motivated them to set high goals in life, work hard, and strive to achieve excellence.
The school principal informed the Minister that the playground is being upgraded with a grant of ₹15 lakh. In response, Bains directed that the playground should also be made accessible to local children during evening hours so that the wider community can benefit.
Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann to bring accountability and swift implementation in the education sector, Bains asked teachers to prepare a list of requirements and submit it to the inspection team. He assured that he would personally monitor the upgradation process and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to bring government schools at par with top private institutions.
