India’s leading industrialist and RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka has issued a major directive across his companies following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for economic discipline and reduced fuel consumption.

In a post on X, Harsh Goenka said the focus will now shift from “showmanship and unnecessary spending” to savings and responsible management. One of the biggest changes announced is the promotion of work from home for employees whose roles can be handled remotely.

Under the new guidelines, the group will significantly reduce foreign travel, while domestic flights will only be allowed in cases of extreme necessity. Inter-city meetings and conferences that require travel will now be shifted to virtual mode to save both time and operational costs.

The RPG Group has also taken a strong environmental stand. According to the new policy, all new vehicles purchased or leased by the group will be electric or hybrid models. Employees have also been encouraged to use carpooling and public transport such as buses and metro services while commuting to offices.

Goenka said internal reviews, interviews, and routine meetings should increasingly rely on technology instead of physical travel. He added that these steps are not only meant to support the “national agenda” but also to strengthen a culture of responsibility and smarter resource management within the company.

The announcement comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce unnecessary expenses, limit fuel usage, avoid non-essential foreign travel, and cut down on edible oil consumption. The Prime Minister had also appealed to people to avoid purchasing gold for the next one year as part of broader economic prudence measures.
