Rainfall across Delhi and the National Capital Region on thursday caused widespread disruption, triggering severe waterlogging and traffic congestion in several parts of the city during peak morning hours.
Traffic moved slowly on major stretches including Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg, Ber Sarai, and the JNU Gate–Jia Sarai Road. Vehicle movement was also affected on NH-48 between Dhaula Kuan and the Rajokri flyover towards Gurugram. Congestion was reported from Kalindi Kunj and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway as well.
Many commuters took to social media to complain about unusually long travel times. Several residents said routes that normally take a few minutes required nearly an hour because of waterlogged roads and heavy traffic.
Crowded areas such as Yusuf Sarai Market and JNU Gate witnessed additional delays, with commuters alleging inadequate traffic management. Long queues of vehicles were also seen near Green Park Metro Station and AIIMS, adding to the morning rush-hour chaos.
In Shastri Park in northeast Delhi, waterlogging was reported in residential and commercial areas, with rainwater entering some shops and causing inconvenience to traders and residents. Similar conditions were observed in Sainik Farms, where submerged roads disrupted vehicular movement.
Commuters also reported heavy water accumulation on Rohtak Road following the downpour.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Gurugram and Faridabad, indicating the possibility of adverse weather conditions.
IMD has advised citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated on weather and traffic advisories as further rainfall is expected in parts of the region.
