At least 14 people were killed in a tragic train accident on Monday at Bekasi Timur Station on the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia. A long-distance train crashed into the rear coach of a commuter train that was stationary at the platform.
The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to multiple coaches and trapping several passengers inside. Officials confirmed on Tuesday morning that the death toll has reached 14, while rescue and relief operations are still underway.
Bobby Rasyidin, Chief Executive Officer of state-run railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia, said all 14 bodies have been recovered and sent to hospitals for identification and further formalities.
Panic gripped the station immediately after the collision, as rescue teams and emergency responders rushed to the scene. Injured passengers were evacuated and taken to nearby hospitals. Several people are reported injured, though the exact number has not yet been confirmed.
