In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the CIA staff Narwana team of Jind district has arrested two inter-state smugglers with a massive consignment of 8 quintals and 15 kilograms of doda post (poppy husk). The accused were caught near Mohalkhera Railway Overbridge while transporting the illegal consignment in a canter vehicle.
According to CIA in-charge Sukhdev Singh, the police team led by Sub-Inspector Roshan Lal was patrolling the Indira Colony area in Narwana when they received a tip-off about two smugglers from Punjab and Rajasthan moving a large quantity of narcotics towards Punjab in a canter.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police set up a blockade near Mohalkhera Railway Overbridge on Khanauri Road. After some time, a BharatBenz canter matching the informer’s description arrived at the spot. The vehicle was immediately stopped and both suspects were taken into custody.
During a thorough search conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer, police recovered 39 sacks concealed under a tarpaulin sheet. The sacks contained a total of 8 quintals and 15 kilograms of doda post.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gurucharan Singh alias Charna, a resident of Barnala in Punjab, and Mahesh Rao Maratha alias Mahendra, a resident of Chittorgarh in Rajasthan.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at City Police Station Narwana, and further investigation is underway to trace the wider supply network.
