CHANDIGARH, SEPTEMBER 16: Expressing concern over BSF seizure 2-kilo heroin from two state police officials, the Senior BJP leader and State BJP President Sunil Jakhar on Saturday demanded immediate Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) intervention to curb scourge of drug menace prevailing in Punjab.
The move, he said, has been necessitated in wake of rising incidents of police officers caught facilitating illegal drug trade in Punjab and the low morale of state's force due to a weak political leadership given by AAP regime.
It seems to have become normal under AAP to read about police officers hobnobbing with gangsters, the veteran Punjab leader underlined adding that the fate of any enquiry marked by AAP government against delinquent police officers has never seen the light of the day.
Under this present regime - which had claimed to eradicate drug menace within 4 months - our state today is reeling under an onslaught of unabated contraband supply where drug traffickers and gangsters rule the roost, Jakhar stated expressing deep worry over the daily happenings of reported deaths overdose.
I would urge the state government to accept on record that they are unable to control the situation and in the interest of Punjab, NCB should be roped in to mitigate the situation. The CM has just a day before accepted that our industry needs protection when he said police chowkis would be opened at Focal Points, Jakhar said adding there should not be any hitch in approaching central agency when the question is to save young lives.
Making it clear that he is never in favour of central interference in state affairs, but added that it is high time Punjab is saved from going further down the path of drug abuse black hole. It might then be a situation of no return, Jakhar added cautioning the state government to wake up and start assuming its constitutional duty of protecting the citizens and not merely engage in fake brouhaha over non existent claims and achievements.
This regime has given free hand to gangsters who rule from inside the jails. People of the state are living in constant fear and there is no administration and system to safeguard their lives, Jakhar said flaying the state administration for plunging Punjab into dark days.
