Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday termed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation a "major victory for democracy," crediting the country's youth for forcing the government to respond through their sustained protests.
Congratulating students and young people across the country, Kejriwal said the resignation proved that public movements can compel governments to listen to citizens. He described the development as a significant triumph for democratic values.
"Many congratulations to the youth of our country and to Gen Z. It is a matter of great happiness that your struggle has borne fruit and, ultimately, Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign. This is a great victory for democracy," Kejriwal said.
He claimed that people had begun losing faith in democratic institutions, believing governments were unwilling to respond to public concerns despite repeated appeals. According to him, the government's decision showed that public pressure could overcome political arrogance.
"The government's arrogance had to bow before the people. This is a victory for democracy and the democratic spirit. The government must now understand that it has to listen to the people because this is a democracy," he said.
Kejriwal also urged the Centre to undertake comprehensive reforms of the NEET examination system, calling for strict measures to eliminate paper leaks and restore students' confidence in the examination process.
Expressing concern over the mental health impact of examination controversies, the AAP leader said he hoped the government would ensure such incidents never push students toward taking their own lives again.
