Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa, is currently on a visit to New Zealand, a country that, like Punjab, is built on the backbone of agriculture. His mission: to bring back the best in modern farming techniques to uplift the lives of our hardworking farmers in Punjab.

Today, Bajwa had an inspiring visit to a hydroponic farm run by Balbir Pabla, originally from Banga, now settled on the outskirts of Auckland. Pabla is growing high-value crops like lettuce and speciality salad leaves using hydroponics – a method of growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water. This technique uses less water, less space, and no pesticides, and can significantly increase income per acre.

Bajwa said, with Punjab facing a serious crisis of depleting groundwater levels and stagnant agricultural income, it’s time to diversify our farming methods and adopt technology-driven solutions that can transform lives in rural Punjab.

He said, If Balbir Pabla can succeed using these methods in New Zealand, why can’t our farmers in Punjab do the same? What they need is support, vision, and a government committed to change.
