Major Arshdeep Singh Gill, an Indian Army officer from Sector-79, Mohali, has been awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for his exceptional bravery during a high-risk counter-insurgency operation in Manipur.

The honour was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu during the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

According to defence sources, Major Gill displayed remarkable courage and leadership during a sensitive and challenging operation against insurgents in Manipur that lasted around 84 hours (over three and a half days). Despite extremely hostile and adverse conditions, he led his team from the front and ensured the successful completion of the mission.

Major Gill belongs to the Armoured Corps and is currently posted with the 1 Assam Rifles.

As the news of the prestigious award reached his residence in Mohali, Sector-79, a wave of celebrations followed, with neighbours and well-wishers arriving to congratulate the family.

Defence experts and security officials have described his achievement as an inspiring example for the youth of the country.
