A Special CBI Court in Mohali, Punjab, has convicted Samir Dua, a partner of M/s GD Ispat Udyog, Mandi Gobindgarh, in a multi-crore bank fraud case and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on the convict.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the case pertains to the fraudulent procurement of a ₹4 crore cash credit limit from the Mandi Gobindgarh branch of Indian Overseas Bank. Investigators found that the accused had allegedly submitted false and fabricated documents to the bank as part of a criminal conspiracy.
Based on these forged documents, the firm secured the ₹4 crore credit facility, causing substantial financial losses to the bank. Following a detailed investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against the accused.
After examining the evidence and concluding the trial, the Special CBI Court held Samir Dua guilty and awarded the sentence. Another partner of the firm, Dalip Dua, was also named as an accused in the case. However, the proceedings against him were terminated following his death.
