Nihang Singh organizations on Wednesday began collecting voluntary contributions under the banner of “Khalsa Raj Tax” from vehicles arriving from Himachal Pradesh near the Morda Toll Plaza, in protest against the entry tax allegedly being imposed on Punjab vehicles by the Himachal Pradesh government.
Around 11:15 a.m., dozens of Nihang Singhs led by Achhar Singh gathered at the site and appealed to motorists for support. By approximately 12:15 p.m., several drivers had contributed amounts ranging from ₹10 to ₹50 according to their willingness.
The Nihang groups emphasized that no motorist was being forced to pay and that contributions were entirely voluntary. They stated that those who support the campaign may donate any amount they choose, while those unwilling to contribute are allowed to pass without any obstruction.
Speaking on the occasion, Nihang leader Achhar Singh said the initiative was launched to protest the entry tax imposed on Punjab vehicles entering Himachal Pradesh.
He claimed that the issue has been raised repeatedly over a long period, but no concrete solution has emerged.
According to the organizers, the campaign is intended to send a message to the Himachal Pradesh government and register their opposition to the entry tax policy.
