Punjab Newsline, Panchkula, December 18-
Paras Health Panchkula, under the leadership of Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Naveen Aggarwal, Director of Cardiology, has achieved a milestone by successfully performing a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) on an 86-year-old patient. Suffering from severe left ventricular dysfunction and advanced aortic valve stenosis, the patient was unfit for traditional open-heart surgery due to age and frailty. TAVI, a minimally invasive procedure, offered a safer and faster recovery option.
The procedure, conducted in November at the Paras Cath Lab, was live-streamed to the prestigious Hyderabad Valve Conference, where over 800 cardiologists and an international panel of experts witnessed it. This marked the first live demonstration of a TAVI procedure in Upper North India.
TAVI replaces a damaged aortic valve using a catheter inserted through the leg or chest, eliminating the need for open-heart surgery. It is especially beneficial for high-risk patients. The patient recovered well and was discharged in just four days.
Dr. Aggarwal, a certified TAVI expert, has performed over 100 TAVI procedures, including 40 at Paras Health Panchkula, reaffirming the hospital’s dedication to advanced cardiac care and innovative treatments.
