Punjab Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday said the state Transport Department has significantly improved the timely delivery of Driving Licence (DL) and Registration Certificate (RC) services, bringing the overall pendency rate down to just 0.36%.
Cheema shared the details while chairing a state-level performance review meeting through video conferencing. The review covered 12 key public services notified under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Services Act, 2018.
According to the minister, the department received 15,55,958 applications for Registration Certificates between January 1 and August 17, 2026. Of these, only 3,673 applications remained pending beyond the prescribed timeline, resulting in a pendency rate of 0.24%.
Similarly, out of 2,71,146 Driving Licence applications, only 2,871 cases were pending beyond the stipulated timeframe, reflecting a pendency rate of 1.06%.
Together, the department received 18,27,104 applications for DL and RC services during the period, of which 6,544 cases remained pending beyond the prescribed timeline. This brought the combined pendency rate to 0.36%, well below the 1% benchmark.
Cheema said the figures reflected the department's continuous monitoring and streamlined disposal mechanism. He directed all licensing and registration authorities and Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to maintain the performance benchmark and give priority to cases pending beyond the prescribed timelines.
He said the Bhagwant Mann-led government was committed to ensuring transparent, timely and hassle-free public services for citizens, while directing officials to maintain strict internal monitoring at their respective levels.
