Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav visited Ludhiana on Monday (May 5), where he inaugurated the newly built Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at the Police Lines in Civil Lines. The facility was dedicated to the public during a formal ceremony attended by senior officials.
During the visit, the DGP also shared a meal with police personnel and honoured officers for their outstanding performance, boosting morale within the force.
Addressing the media, Yadav announced that Ludhiana has now become the third city in Punjab, after Mohali and Jalandhar, to fully implement the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). Under this system, AI-based cameras have been installed at 46 key locations across the city to automatically detect traffic violations and generate e-challans.
Highlighting technological advancements, the DGP said Punjab Police was among the first in the country to adopt artificial intelligence in policing back in 2019. The force currently maintains a database of over 400,000 criminals and has uploaded voice samples of around 84,000 individuals.
Taking a firm stance on threats originating from abroad, Yadav asserted that the long arm of the law would reach offenders regardless of their location. “Whether a criminal is sitting overseas or anywhere in India, we will track and bring them to justice,” he said.
On border security, he revealed that Punjab Police has established a “second line of defence” along sensitive areas. Surveillance infrastructure includes over 2,300 cameras installed at 585 locations. Notably, Punjab remains the only state in India with its own Anti-Drone System (ADS), with three systems currently operational and six more set to be deployed soon.
