The Punjab Government has stepped up its preparations to tackle floods and other natural disasters ahead of the upcoming monsoon season by releasing an advance amount of Rs 146 crore across the state. The move aims to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure a swift response in case of emergencies.

Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of the people of Punjab. Keeping the possibility of heavy rains and flood-related challenges in mind, the government has provided adequate financial resources to all districts to enhance their readiness.

Giving details, the minister said that Rs 100 crore has been released to all district administrations for the financial year 2026-27. The funds will enable local authorities to respond promptly to any natural disaster and carry out relief and rescue operations without delay. The allocation is expected to strengthen disaster management capabilities at the district level and help officials take timely action during emergencies.

In addition, the state government has sanctioned Rs 46 crore specifically for flood prevention and preparedness measures. Under this allocation, each district has been provided Rs 2 crore to arrange boats, flood-fighting equipment, rescue materials, and other essential resources required to handle flood situations effectively.

Mundian said the Punjab Government is continuously monitoring the preparedness of all districts and has directed concerned officials to complete all necessary arrangements well before the onset of the monsoon season. He noted that the advance release of funds will significantly improve the capacity of district administrations to undertake preventive measures and respond efficiently during emergencies.

Reiterating the government's commitment to public safety, the minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, disaster preparedness, protection of infrastructure, and the safety of citizens remain top priorities. He added that every possible effort is being made to protect the interests of the people and minimize the impact of any natural calamity in the state.
