In a significant humanitarian initiative prioritizing the welfare and future of children, the Punjab Government has successfully facilitated the safe repatriation of five Bangladeshi children, enabling them to reunite with their families after being separated for an extended period.
Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said the children have now safely returned to Bangladesh, where they will have the opportunity to begin a new chapter of their lives with their loved ones. The joy of returning home was evident on the children's faces after spending a long time away from their families.
The minister stated that the children were found in Punjab's border region during 2023. Following directions from the Child Welfare Committees, they were placed in various child care institutions across the state to ensure their safety and well-being. During their stay, they received proper care, education, healthcare services, counselling, and support for their overall development in a secure and dignified environment.
Dr. Baljit Kaur further said that the Punjab Government worked closely with the Bangladesh High Commission, the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and other concerned agencies to establish the children's identities and trace their families. After completing all necessary legal and administrative formalities, the five children were safely repatriated to Bangladesh and reunited with their families.
Emphasizing the importance of family, the minister said that every child has the right to love, protection, and belonging. She described the reunion as one of the most emotional and memorable moments in a child's life, adding that the successful repatriation represents not only the return of five children to their homes but also a victory for humanity, compassion, and social responsibility.
Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government remains committed to the protection, care, and welfare of children and will continue to undertake such humanitarian efforts in the future.
