Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted another major drug trafficking network by arresting three alleged smugglers and recovering 25 kilograms of heroin during an intelligence-led operation. The action is part of the anti-drug campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab a drug-free state.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the arrested accused as Bhupinder Singh of Jandaur village in Hoshiarpur, Ravi Kumar of Kripal Colony, Dasuya (Hoshiarpur), and Vishal Singh of Fatehpur in Amritsar. Police also seized a Hyundai Verna (PB-10-GS-7779) allegedly used for transporting narcotics.

The latest operation comes just a day after CI Amritsar arrested three other members of two separate drug trafficking networks and recovered 13 kilograms of heroin.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were operating under the directions of a cross-border smuggler and were collecting heroin consignments from different locations before distributing them across Punjab.

Sharing details of the operation, the DGP said CI Amritsar received credible intelligence that Bhupinder Singh and Ravi Kumar were scheduled to meet their associate Vishal Singh near Dana Mandi on Mehta Road in Gill village, Amritsar, to strike a deal involving a large heroin consignment.

Acting swiftly, police teams set up a checkpoint and intercepted the suspects near Dana Mandi. During the search, 8 kg of heroin was recovered from the possession of Vishal Singh, while 17 kg of heroin was recovered from Bhupinder Singh and Ravi Kumar.

Police said further investigation is underway to trace the accused's backward and forward links, identify all those involved in the network, and expose the entire drug supply chain.

A case has been registered under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, vide FIR No. 44 dated July 7, 2026.
