Punjab Police have arrested a police clerk (Munshi) posted at the Ghubaya police outpost in Jalalabad for his alleged involvement in heroin smuggling.
Following the arrest, senior police officials took immediate disciplinary action and suspended both the outpost clerk and the officer in charge.
According to Jalalabad DSP Gursewak Singh Brar, Sri Muktsar Sahib Police was conducting a special anti-drug operation when officers intercepted a suspicious car at a checkpoint. During the search, police recovered 280 grams of heroin and a licensed revolver from the occupants of the vehicle.
The case took a dramatic turn when one of the accused was identified as Joginder Singh, the Munshi posted at the Ghubaya police outpost in the Jalalabad area. After finding his alleged direct involvement in the drug trafficking case, Muktsar Police arrested him on the spot.
Following Joginder Singh's arrest, senior officers launched a deeper probe into the case, which raised questions over the role of Gurnam Singh, the in-charge of the Ghubaya police outpost.
Citing alleged negligence and a suspicious role, investigators have also named the outpost in-charge as an accused in the case.
Both the outpost in-charge and the Munshi have been placed under suspension while the investigation into the alleged drug trafficking network continues.
