A Punbus depot driver and conductor have been booked in a drug trafficking case in Ludhiana after a depot checking team's report led to police action. Based on the report, Division No. 5 Police Station registered an FIR against both employees under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the case was registered following a complaint submitted by the Ludhiana Punbus Depot Manager. The complaint stated that on July 17, 2026, the depot's checking team reported that driver Gobinder Singh and conductor Manpreet Singh alias Kaku were allegedly transporting narcotics in a Panbus vehicle.
The checking staff reported that the contraband had been kept in a car bearing registration number PB-10-FUU-5356. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Manpreet Singh alias Kaku, a resident of Saidpur Behrara village in Anandpur Sahib tehsil of Rupnagar district.
During the search, police recovered 12 kilograms of bhukki (poppy husk) from his possession. The second accused, Gobinder Singh, a resident of Mamadpur village under Sherpur police station in Sangrur district, is currently absconding.
Police teams are conducting raids at suspected hideouts to trace and arrest the absconding accused. An FIR has been registered against both accused under Sections 15, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
