Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) intensified its anti-corruption campaign during June, successfully apprehending five government officials and one private individual while allegedly accepting bribes in six separate trap cases across the state.
Sharing the details, a spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau said the agency has been making sustained efforts to eliminate corruption among public servants and other individuals involved in illegal practices.
During the month, the Bureau filed charge sheets in 15 vigilance cases before competent courts. It also registered nine fresh criminal cases against 15 accused, including 13 government employees.
The spokesperson further stated that a competent court concluded one bribery case prosecuted by the Bureau during June, convicting six individuals. Each of the convicted persons was sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined between Rs. 27,000 and Rs. 31,000.
The Vigilance Bureau reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against corruption and ensuring transparency and accountability in public administration across Punjab.
