Under the Punjab Government’s War Against Drugs campaign, a review meeting was held in Moga where Cabinet Minister Hardip Singh Mundian assessed the progress of ongoing anti-drug initiatives. He said the campaign has been delivering encouraging results and that efforts will continue to make it more effective at the grassroots level.
Mundian stated that a comprehensive drive against drug abuse is being carried out under the leadership of AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He urged citizens to support the government’s efforts and help transform the campaign into a mass movement aimed at creating a drug-free society.
Minister said the government is not only targeting the drug supply chain but is also confiscating properties built through the illegal earnings of drug traffickers. He added that special rehabilitation measures are being undertaken to help drug victims return to mainstream life, with more than 2,000 individuals successfully treated and reintegrated into society so far.
Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia informed the meeting that de-addiction centres are being prioritized across the district. Awareness seminars are being conducted in schools, while village panchayats and municipal councillors have also been actively involved in the campaign.
He noted that nearly 22,000 people are registered at OTT clinics and around 450 Village Defence Committees are currently functioning in the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal said that during 2026, police registered 777 cases against drug traffickers and sent more than 900 accused persons to jail. He also revealed that illegal properties worth over ₹9 crore linked to drug trafficking have been seized.
