Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday reached Ward No. 5 in Muktsar on a bullock cart along with his wife Amrita Warring to cast their votes during the local body elections. The move was presented as a symbolic protest against rising inflation and soaring fuel prices.
Speaking to the media, Raja Warring said petrol and diesel prices have increased to such an extent that it has become difficult for common people to run their vehicles. He said many people are being forced to keep their vehicles parked at home due to the rising cost of fuel.
Questioning the burden on low-income families, he said, “How will a poor person manage? Should he run his household or spend on fuel for vehicles?” He claimed that petrol prices in Punjab have reached around ₹105.44 per litre, while diesel prices are touching ₹95.38 per litre.
Targeting the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Raja Warring said that winning elections alone is not enough and governments also have the responsibility to provide relief to the public. He added that using a bullock cart to reach the polling booth was meant to send a message that inflation has pushed people towards old means of transport once again.
