Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Punjab, alleging that the Prime Minister has "done nothing" for the state during his 12-year tenure except making promises during election campaigns.

Reacting to the Prime Minister's visit, Warring claimed that the timing of the visit was linked to the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. He alleged that the Prime Minister had no new announcements for the state and was merely repeating old promises without any intention of fulfilling them.

Punjab Congress chief also accused the BJP of attempting to polarise people for political gains. He said Punjab would not be influenced by such politics and instead needed concrete measures for economic growth and agricultural revival.

Warring said the state requires economic and agricultural reconstruction, adding that the Centre has failed to fulfil key commitments made to farmers, including farm loan waivers and a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops.

Pointing out that Narendra Modi has been Prime Minister for over 12 years, Warring alleged that despite claiming a close association with Punjab, the Centre has failed to provide the state with its rightful share of development.

He further accused the Union government of discriminating against Punjab since 2017 and questioned whether central assistance was conditional on having a BJP government in the state. According to Warring, such an approach amounts to political blackmail.

Listing the state's priorities, Warring called for a legal guarantee for MSP, revival of industry, employment opportunities for youth, a special package for border districts, greater support for farmers and stronger action against drug abuse.

"Punjab has never been short on sacrifice. It shouldn't have to keep waiting for its due. Punjab doesn't need another headline—it needs something worth remembering after you leave," Warring said.
