Chandigarh: Dera Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, lodged in Haryana's Sunaria jail in the Sadhvi sexual abuse and murder case, has once again sought parole. Ram Rahim has also requested that the Punjab and Haryana High Court should remove the order banning granting of any kind of parole or furlough. Gurmeet Ram Rahim has said that he can come out of jail for about 41 days this year, including 20 days parole and 21 days furlough.

In fact, earlier the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee had filed a petition in the High Court objecting to the parole of Gurmeet Ram Rahim as to why Ram Rahim is coming out of jail again and again. While hearing this petition, on February 29, the High Court issued orders not to consider the parole application of Ram Rahim without the permission of the court.

Along with the demand for parole, Ram Rahim has appealed to the High Court that under the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners Act 2022, its eligible convicts have got the right to 70 days parole and 21 days furlough every year. It has also been argued that its rules do not prohibit the grant of parole and furlough to a convict and the benefit is available to a person convicted in three or more cases involving life imprisonment and a fixed term sentence.
