Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended a major offer to India for the joint development and production of the fifth-generation Su-57 stealth fighter jet. Putin stated that Russia is fully prepared to collaborate with India on the advanced combat aircraft project without imposing any technological restrictions or limitations.
The proposal comes at a crucial time when India's indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program is still in its developmental phase.
Speaking during an interaction with heads of international news agencies, Putin responded to a question from an Indian journalist by recalling that Russia had previously invited India to participate in the development of the fifth-generation fighter.
Putin noted that the project could initially have been a joint India-Russia venture, but Russia eventually proceeded with the development independently. He emphasized that Moscow remains open to reviving the partnership and working closely with New Delhi on the aircraft's future.
"It could have been our joint product. However, we developed it ourselves. Even now, we are ready to work together with India on production, supply, and further development of the aircraft," Putin said.
Highlighting Russia's willingness to share advanced technologies, Putin asserted that there would be no restrictions on technology transfer. He added that both countries could jointly develop and enhance the platform, strengthening their long-standing defence partnership.
The Su-57 is Russia's premier fifth-generation stealth fighter, designed for air superiority and precision strike missions. The latest offer is expected to attract significant attention in India's defence establishment as the country seeks to modernize its air combat capabilities and advance its domestic aerospace industry.
