SC dismisses PIL seeking reintroduction of Paper Ballot system in Elections

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh, November 26 –

The Supreme Court of India today dismissed a PIL seeking the reintroduction of the paper ballot system in elections in India. The Court rejected the petitioner’s claims of EVM tampering and also pointed out the inconsistency of politicians who question the credibility of EVMs only after losing elections.

Dismissing the petition, a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and P.B. Varale remarked the petitioner that EVMs are not tampered with when one wins elections. EVMs are tampered with only when one lose elections.

The bench found the arguments of petitioner Dr. K.A. Paul to be baseless and remarked that political parties do not have an issue with the current system.
