A tragic late-night road accident on National Highway-44 in Haryana's Sonipat district claimed the lives of two young men and left another critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into them while they were changing a flat tyre.

The accident occurred near Shaan-e-Punjab Dhaba in the Ganaur area on Wednesday night. According to police, the three men had stopped their car on the roadside after it suffered a puncture. While they were replacing the tyre, a fast-moving truck crashed into them from behind.

The impact was so severe that Sunil, a resident of Faridabad, and Mohit, a resident of Shahpur Taga village in Ganaur, died on the spot. The third victim, identified as Umesh, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains under treatment.

The victims were reportedly returning home after visiting an acquaintance admitted to a hospital when the tragedy occurred.

Eyewitnesses said the three men were busy changing the tyre when the speeding truck struck them with tremendous force, throwing them several metres away. Local residents immediately alerted the police and ambulance services, but two of the victims had already succumbed to their injuries by the time help arrived.

Police from the Bari police station reached the spot, took custody of the bodies, and sent them to Sonipat Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the truck driver, who fled the scene along with the vehicle after the accident.

Police state that the accused driver will soon be arrested and legal action will be taken against him.
