Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal injured in an attack at a gurdwara in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Thursday. According to preliminary reports, a Nihang attacked him with a kirpan at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur, causing an injury to his hand. A police officer deployed in his security detail was also injured while trying to stop the attacker.
Sources said Sukhbir Singh Badal had arrived in Nanded with his family and visited the gurdwara to pay obeisance. During the visit, a man present at the shrine allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon.
Badal reportedly sustained an injury to his hand, while a security personnel accompanying him was hurt during the scuffle as he attempted to restrain the attacker.
Following the incident, Badal was taken to Yashosai Hospital for treatment. A detailed medical update on his condition is still awaited.
Attacker detained, motive unclear
Security personnel and other people present at the spot quickly overpowered the accused. Police have taken the suspect into custody and begun questioning him. The motive behind the attack has not yet been established.

The attack on a senior political leader inside a religious place has raised serious questions about security arrangements. Police are examining CCTV footage, recording statements of eyewitnesses, and investigating all possible angles related to the incident.
