A suspected case of Ebola virus infection has been reported in Rajasthan's Jaipur, prompting health authorities to step up surveillance and precautionary measures.

A 19-year-old female tourist from Uganda has been admitted to a special isolation ward at the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) Hospital after displaying symptoms similar to those associated with Ebola.

However, officials have clarified that the infection has not yet been confirmed, and test results are awaited. The young woman arrived in Jaipur on Friday morning via Sharjah and was referred for medical evaluation after showing concerning symptoms.

RUHS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Anil Gupta said that while the patient exhibits certain symptoms that resemble Ebola infection, no definitive diagnosis has been made so far. He emphasized that the final conclusion will depend on laboratory test reports. A team of doctors is closely monitoring the patient's condition in isolation.

The development comes amid heightened global concern over Ebola outbreaks reported in several countries. Earlier, suspected cases were also reported in Bengaluru and Gujarat, although investigations are ongoing.

According to health reports, the current outbreak linked to the rare Bundibugyo virus strain has caused significant concern in Central and East Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported 363 confirmed cases and 62 deaths, while more than 100 suspected cases remain under investigation. Uganda has recorded 15 confirmed cases, including one death.

The latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that while the number of suspected cases is declining, the overall national-level risk assessment remains very high, keeping health agencies on alert.
