Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi on Saturday as the chief guest, where he awarded degrees and medals to meritorious students and emphasized that technology and innovation will play a decisive role in shaping India’s future.
More than 3,000 students received degrees during the convocation, including 587 PhD scholars, marking a significant academic milestone for the premier institute.
Addressing the graduates, PM Modi congratulated the students and encouraged them to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to India’s growth in science, technology, entrepreneurship, and research. He said institutions such as IIT Delhi are helping build a strong innovation ecosystem that can drive the country toward becoming a global leader in advanced technologies.
During the event, the Prime Minister also remotely inaugurated ‘PARAM Pragya’, an AI-based High-Performance Computing (HPC) supercomputer established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus in Haryana.
The new supercomputer is expected to strengthen research capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, advanced computing, scientific simulations, and other emerging technologies. It has been designed to perform complex calculations at high speed and support cutting-edge research projects across multiple disciplines.
Officials said PARAM Pragya is part of India’s National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), under which 37 supercomputers have been installed and are operational across the country. These systems have been deployed at leading institutions such as IITs, IISc, NITs, C-DAC, IISERs, and other research organizations to enhance the country’s computational infrastructure and scientific capabilities.
Some of the prominent supercomputers under the mission include PARAM Siddhi (Pune), PARAM Pravega (IISc Bengaluru), PARAM Shakti (IIT Kharagpur), PARAM Sanganak (IIT Kanpur), PARAM Seva (IIT Hyderabad), PARAM Rudra (New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai), PARAM Brahma (Pune), PARAM Yukti (Bengaluru), and PARAM Shivay (IIT-BHU, Varanasi).
The launch of PARAM Pragya is expected to provide a major boost to India’s efforts in AI-driven research, advanced computing, and high-performance scientific innovation, while also supporting students, researchers, and industry collaborations in developing next-generation technologies.
The convocation ceremony concluded with the Prime Minister interacting with students and faculty members, celebrating both the academic achievements of the graduating class and the growing role of Indian institutions in advancing global technological innovation.
