Central Government has filed an affidavit before the Delhi High Court detailing the alleged misuse of Telegram groups and channels in connection with the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case.
According to the affidavit, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) received several complaints regarding the misuse of Telegram for circulating leaked NEET examination papers and facilitating exam-related fraudulent activities.
The government stated that the National Testing Agency (NTA) identified multiple Telegram channels, groups, and bots that were allegedly involved in sharing leaked question papers and promoting malpractice linked to the NEET examination.
The affidavit further revealed that authorities initially adopted the least restrictive approach and did not immediately block the messaging platform. Instead, Telegram representatives were summoned for a meeting on June 3, 2026, where the government expressed serious concerns over the platform’s inability to proactively identify and remove channels spreading leaked examination content.
During the meeting, Telegram reportedly acknowledged its limitations in detecting such content proactively and informed the government that its moderators were taking action only against channels that had been reported.
Meanwhile, the NEET-UG 2026 examination, originally conducted on May 3, came under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that the question paper had been leaked before the exam.
In response, authorities have scheduled a re-examination on June 21, assuring students that all necessary facilities and enhanced security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
