Strengthening its drive against milk adulteration, the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has launched a dedicated toll-free helpline 1800-180-2202 and appointed a state nodal officer to address complaints and provide guidance on milk quality under the ‘Pure milk, healthy Punjab’ campaign.
Sharing details of the initiative, Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the Dairy Development Department has tested 6,000 milk samples at 160 awareness and testing camps across the state from April 1, 2026 till date.
To make milk quality testing more accessible, the department has deployed four mobile laboratory vans, with five additional mobile labs set to join the campaign soon. Besides mobile testing, routine milk quality checks are being conducted daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the offices of District Deputy Directors across Punjab.
The Minister said the government, in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, has procured and distributed 5,000 portable milk adulteration detection kits to District Dairy Development Offices and 500 kits to Veterinary Polyclinics of the Animal Husbandry Department and awareness camp sites.
These portable kits enable instant on-the-spot testing for fat, SNF (Solids-Not-Fat), protein, and six commonly used adulterants, including urea, starch and hydrogen peroxide. The technology allows officials and dairy farmers to verify milk quality during field visits, reducing dependence on central laboratories and enabling quicker action against adulteration.
"Adulterated milk not only poses a serious threat to public health but also affects the livelihood of honest dairy farmers," said S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian. "Through mobile laboratories, instant testing kits and the toll-free helpline, the government is committed to ensuring quality milk reaches consumers while protecting genuine dairy producers."
Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Rahul Bhandari, said citizens can now get their milk samples tested free of cost at all District Deputy Directors' offices. He added that people can also seek assistance from the State Nodal Officer through the dedicated contact numbers 98784-41386 and 0172-5027285 for any milk quality-related queries.
The Punjab Government has also launched a statewide awareness campaign under "Shudh Dudh, Tandarust Punjab" to educate consumers about their right to safe and pure milk while encouraging public participation in eliminating milk adulteration.
