Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) on Thursday added 40 new state-of-the-art buses to its fleet, aiming to make passenger travel more comfortable and strengthen inter-state connectivity.

The new buses were flagged off by Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. With this addition, the total number of long-route CTU buses has increased to 207, up from 167 earlier.

These buses will operate on routes across seven states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Passengers are expected to benefit from a more comfortable travel experience, comparable to luxury Volvo services, but at more affordable fares.

The expansion is expected to enhance CTU’s daily operational capacity by 18,000 kilometres. Officials estimate that this will generate an additional revenue of around ₹6 lakh per day.

The move is part of CTU’s broader effort to modernize its fleet and improve regional connectivity while offering better services to commuters.
